More Convenor’s Needed Across Canada
It’s another new year for LifeRing Canada, and we welcome some new members and say “so long”, but not goodbye to some others. Currently we have 210 website members joining the many participants in our Zoom and In-Person groups.
This newsletter is going to focus on one of the key points from our annual conference that was held in December 2021 in Victoria, recruiting convenor’s and why the need for trained volunteers to lead our groups. We have substance support facilities requesting us to start groups and we’ve been hearing that there is a need for more.
LifeRing is slowly rebuilding and have recently been able to open some of our in-person meetings in Victoria, Vancouver (2), Coquitlam, Maple Ridge (2), Richmond, Kamloops and Kitchener, ON. We also have our Zoom groups several times a week. We would like to open more groups but need your help. If you would like to build your responsibility, accountability and help those struggling with substance use issues in your community, please contact us at info@liferingcanada.org.
As a convenor you would be required to take some training which is about an hour long via YouTube and complete a short question/answer quiz, participate in other meetings as a co-convenor to see how it all works, and even being available to support other meetings, if possible. At the end you would be given a formal Convenor’s Completion Certificate.
Where were you at the beginning of your recovery journey: trying different meetings, talking to professionals, making decisions that would help you stay clean and sober? Sharing your experiences and getting involved in leading, setting an example and being available to help others is a great way to lead your own recovery.
To be a convenor, our team needs you to have 6 months continuous sobriety, and to be able to consistently lead meetings either on Zoom or if available in person (if permitted).
LifeRing also started a new face-to-face meeting in Surrey, BC. The meeting is at The Easy Does It Club on Wednesday nights at 6:30 pm. The meeting will be convened by our newest Certified Convenor Terry Wood and Jamie Itterman.
Almost every weekend Brenda Tosoff from the “Friday Nights by Choice” LifeRing meeting in Maple Ridge organizes events for its participants and others in the community as Outreach. This past week some gathered for a night of bowling.

If you are interested in becoming a well-respected convenor, please reach out to anyone currently on our team, and we can set you up with the beginning of an opportunity to give back to your community.
Sincerely,
Barbara Ross
